After my recent backpacking adventure on the Manistee River Loop, I was inspired to further explore what the North Country Trail in the Manistee National Forest has to offer. I decided the approximately 5 mile section from Highbanks Lake to Nichols Lake would be perfect. It is a reasonably short, flat, and easy section through some beautiful forest and past some gorgeous little lakes and wetlands. Plus, there are NFS rustic campgrounds at both ends of the section, as well as dispersed camping along the trail. I was not disappointed. Come on along and share the trail with me. I promise I'm not really a creepy old guy.
