THE NARROWS//What to know & EXPECT//EXPLORE ZION NATIONAL PARK!

A long anticipated hike and guys, let me tell you… it DID NOT disappoint!! This hike is definitely one of my all time favorites and the videos don’t even do it justice. If I could recommend one hike at Zion National Park, it’s this one 🤩 We originally wanted to hike The Narrows on Friday but there was a probability of a flash flood and to be honest… it scared me a bit so I wanted to wait until Saturday. This was well worth the wait. There are quite a few things to take into consideration before you venture out on this hike! Here are a few tips & tricks:

1. If you plan on really entering the narrows - you NEED water shoes and socks. Luckily, the Zion Outfitters are located nearby the visitors center and you can rent socks, shoes, and a stick (to help with navigating the water and rocks). We paid $32 each for this bundle. You can rent that morning OR pick up the day before between 4pm-8pm. Picking up the day before was extremely convenient for us because we didn’t need to wait in line in the am and we were ready to go first thing in the morning!

2. Check the weather. The visitors center and the Zion Outfitters both have an eye on weather and the likelihood of flash flooding in The Narrows. Definitely check with them before getting on the shuttle.

3. Plan time for the shuttle to STOP 9. This is the last stop on the shuttle line so if you are starting at the visitors center, you have a 25 minute shuttle to stop 9 before you can start your hike.

4. You have a 1 mile hike before you get to the start of the Narrows! Once you get dropped off… The Narrows don’t start right away LOL. You have to walk the trail for 1 mile and then you are off!

5. Bring a change of clothes. There will be times during the hike that most of your body will be underwater. Make sure you have appropriate clothing and a change of clothes for afterwards!

6. It can be cold. There isn’t much sun in the canyon, especially if you go first thing in the am. We hiked around 9am in August and I had a sweater on for the first part of the hike.

7. Give yourself time. This is NOT a short hike and there is no “loop”. You go as far you want and turn around whenever you like! Give yourself enough time to get to the super “narrow” part of the narrows. As you follow the trail - there will be a fork in the trail that allows you to go right or left. Both are super pretty, but going RIGHT gets you to the slot part of the canyon and it is BEAUTIFUL!

8. Bring a buddy. You will definitely want a friend or two to enjoy this experience with you and to make sure that you are safe! Most of the time, you cannot see the rocks and they are all shapes and sizes… Its always good to have people around in case of emergency.

9. Bring snacks! You will want to stay in The Narrows for a while, so bring water and snacks so you can sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery and FUEL for your journey back!

Difficulty: 8/10 😅
Scenery: 12/10 🤩
Convenience: 9/10 - Park does a great job of logistics👏
