Saints News & Rumors: Andrus Peat Trade Talk, Chargers Preseason Game & Clowney Trade To Saints?

The New Orleans Saints faced off against the Minnesota Vikings in week 1 of the NFL preseason. Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Latavius Murry and the Saints’ offensive line were dubbed “winners” by host Carter Bryant but not everyone was so lucky. The Saints defense struggled in the first half, allowing the Vikings to convert 5 of 7 third downs and average
Almost 10 yards a play. Coupled with Tre’Quan Smith and Jacquizz Rodgers’ trouble holding onto the ball, the Saints fell to the Vikings 34-25. Next up: The Los Angeles Chargers.

Philip Rivers and the Chargers will host the Saints in week 2 of the preseason. Be on the lookout for Saints’ defensive pressure, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and post game commentary from Sean Payton. Can the Saints generate pass rush? If not, they might throw their name in the hat for Jadeveon Clowney. With the Saints in win-now mode & eager to make it to the Super Bowl 54, Cam Jordan teaming up with Clowney would seem to be a cure all for New Orleans. They’ll still have to battle it out in the NFC with the Cowboys, Bears and Rams as threats to ending their Super Bowl season.

One area the New Orleans Saints don’t need any help is in offensive line depth and rumor has it that the Saints might be shopping Andrus Peat to the Raiders. The Raiders are in desperate need of help on the offensive live after giving up 52 sacks last season. With QB Derek Carr in a “prove it year,” he’ll need all the protection he can get. Peat would offer the Raiders depth on the OL as either as a starter or as a swing tackle.
