The 12-string acoustic guitar was a major part of my early development as a guitar player. With its huge dynamic potential, I have always used the 12-string for compositions calling for bigger, more dramatic “wall of sound” landscapes than the 6-string guitar was capable of. “Last Scene In September” — from my 1982 Flying Fish album Pointing Up — is perhaps my most extreme 12-string composition, starting out with a with a subdued lyrical mood, gradually building up the fingerpicking intensity, and then morphing into a manic frenzy of rhythmic strumming. The tune’s name comes from a made-up movie title suggesting something turbulent, dramatic and emotional. Another tune from the 1995 concert at Milestones in Rochester NY, filmed by Andrew Jurman.
