Clapping Music (Steve Reich) for 1 drummer

Описание к видео Clapping Music (Steve Reich) for 1 drummer

Clapping Music is a minimalist piece written by Steve Reich in 1972. It is written for two performers and is performed entirely by clapping. While one performer claps a kind of African bell pattern all trough the piece, the other performer claps the same pattern but after every 8 or 12 bars shifts by one eighth note to the right. The two performers continue this until the second performer has shifted 12 eighth notes and is hence playing the pattern in unison with the first performer again (as at the beginning), some 144 bars later.
The arrangement for 1 Drummer by Claude Hoffmann requires playing both parts by one person on top of a multipedal feet ostinato pattern. In this video the 8th note shift happens every 4 bars.
