It’s illogical, but this was the busiest July on record in real estate in Sydney’s east. It doesn’t make any sense when you look at the macro context: recession, pandemic, uncertainty, stock market volatility…

But here we are, with $62 million transacted across 21 properties; we also received nearly 6,000 enquiries on our listings and conducted over 2,000 physical inspections. Due to the volume of listings available and the trend we’re experiencing with buyer interest, this was our biggest July in 30 years.

Certainly, some of the factors buoying this are interest rates, opportunism, a supply-demand gap, and an international perception of Sydney property as a relative safe haven in terms of asset choices, particularly with the erratic behaviour of the stock market of late.

Now when you hear an agent say the market is on fire, you must be sceptical. Context is helpful when numbers are being published by agencies. So let me share some. Last July, Ray White Double Bay sold $13.5 million worth of property, meaning this year we've outperformed the whole month of July 2019 by more than 300%.
