In Missoula, we're working for you after concerned community members reached out about a visible increase in tents and campers around town.

NBC Montana spoke with the director of the Poverello Center to find out what's driving urban camping in the Garden City.

The Poverello Center provides food, shelter and other services for all those who ask. They have transitional housing for homeless veterans, a medical respite program for people recovering from an illness.

It's the largest homeless shelter in the Treasure State, and while volunteers and employees do their best to serve those in need, officials tell us there's not enough room for everyone who needs a place to stay.

“We are full every night, and so there isn’t enough room for everyone, certainly there is just a need for additional year-round shelter in Missoula, and when there aren’t beds available, then people’s only option is to sleep outside,” said Jill Bonny, the executive director of the Poverello Center.
