Barely 40–50 years ago, the hills of Village Vetale, 65 km north of Pune, were lush with native trees and rich vegetation. Over time, uncontrolled tree felling, cattle grazing, and the annual practice of hill burning left the land barren, stripping it of its green cover. Natural seedlings stood no chance, and any saplings that survived the fires were eaten by free-roaming cattle.

In just six years, Shri Pravin Bhagwat and his team at 14 Trees Foundation have transformed 25 acres of this barren land into a thriving jungle. Building on this success, they now aim to expand their eco-restoration work to three neighbouring villages, creating a grassroots, sustainable, and replicable model for reforestation that can restore degraded lands across the world.

Dr. Pravin Bhagwat is no ordinary environmentalist, he is an IIT Kanpur gold medalist, a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, and a pioneer in wireless networking. As Founder & CTO of AirTight Networks (later Mojo Networks), his innovations shaped the wireless technology industry. Today, he channels that same visionary spirit into healing the planet, blending technology, community action, and ecological wisdom to fight climate change.
