US President Donald Trump has declared America is at "war from within" in an address to the nation's top military officials, while Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth has lambasted the US military for being too fat.

At an often times bizarre address at America's military administration headquarters in Quantico, Trump suggested America's city streets should be used as training grounds for the military, asserting that he will be "straightening out" cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. Trump also likened Portland, Oregon to scenes from World War II, and again round-about suggested he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hegseth, for his part, paced the stage lambasting Generals present and the wider rank-and-file for being fat. The former Fox News regular held himself up as the standard of physical fitness, stating "if the Secretary of War can do regular, hard PT, so can every member of our joint force."
