Introduction: A fair is a large annual gathering of people for buying and selling goods. Men, women, children all come in the village fair to buy things. It is also a place of enjoyment for the villagers.

Occasion of village fair: A village fair is generally held once in a year. It is ordinarily held on some religious festivals like Ed-ul-Fitr, Charak puja etc. A fair is generally held either on the bank of a river or a big dighi or under a large tree. Some village fairs last only one day while some other continue for days together.

Situation: There are no permanent shed in a village fair. Temporary sheds are built in rows. Traders of different articles sit in different rows. The stationary shops always remain busy and overcrowded. These provide the customers with cheap fancy local goods. In some other rows the pots, Jars, bamboo-made basket are laid out to draw the attraction of the buyers. Local sweet meets of various types are also placed for sale. All the shops are found very busy and noisy. These shops remain open all the day long.

Attractions: The village fair is not without amusements. Circus, Magic show, etc. are arranged in the fair. These attract the young children. Sometimes arrangements are made for Jatra party and Jari-songs.

Uses: A village fair is useful in many ways. It helps the growth of local trade and agriculture. It is also a meeting place of friends and relatives from far places.

Defects: A village fair has got its dark side also. Sometimes there are outbreak of epidemic diseases. In each fair gambling is organized and the simple village people are cheated.

Conclusion: A village fair is very amusing and interesting to the villagers. The arrival of the village fair is eagerly awaited by the village people. It comes after a year and refresh the mind of the villagers.
