Mary K

Описание к видео Mary K

Mary K is an English Country Dance devised by Gary Roodman, https://calculatedfigures.com/ , in 2003. It is an improper duple minor longways dance.

The tune is adapted from Scherzo in C minor composed by Dave Wiesler and is performed by MGM (Mary Lea, Gene Murrow and Margaret Ann Martin) and Reunion (Barbara Greenberg, Daniel Beerbohm and Jonathan Jensen) from the album New Friends.

The dance includes a novel figure called Petit Fours, an adaptation of the Grand Square (for a square formation dance) to the longways line of the duple minor dance. Four bars are with current neighbors, and the next four are with the next neighbors. (Unlike the Grand Square couples are 90° out of phase rather than 180°)

The figure starts with 1s and 2s progressed, both couples in the center having just finished a two hand turn.
1 | 1s face up, lead up | 2s fall back
2 | 1s face, fall back | 2s face down, move down outside
3 | 1s face down, move down outside | 2s face move together
4 | 1s face move together | 2s face up, lead up
--------------------------------
1 | 1s face down lead down (to new 2s) | 2s face, fall back
2 | 1s face, fall back | 2s face up, move up
3 | 1s face up, move up | 2s face, move together
4 | 1s face, move to places | 2s lead down to places

The animation plays at 115 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
