Скачать или смотреть First Minister Unveils Plans for What Will Be the UK’s Largest Offshore Wind Tower Factory

On Friday 3rd December, the First Minister of Scotland visited the Port of Nigg to welcome the news that the UK's largest wind tower factory is to be built in Scotland.

The factory, which will be known as Nigg Offshore Wind (NOW), will be capable of producing 135 towers per year to the booming offshore fixed and floating wind industry in the UK and abroad. A joint venture between Global Energy Group and Haizea Wind Group, the factory is expected to open at the Port of Nigg in 2023 and will support more than 400 direct full-time jobs in manufacturing.

Across the UK, the total employment impact will be the creation of more than 1,800 indirect full-time positions with an estimated 1,100 of these in Scotland. Whilst the initial contracts for tower supply will focus on UK domestic supply, it is anticipated that the factory will be in high demand for export of towers and other products due to the rapid rate of planned offshore wind deployment across Europe up until 2050.

Integrating cutting edge robotics and welding inspection technology, the state-of-the-art facility will support more than 400 direct full-time jobs in manufacturing. Across the UK, the total employment impact will be the creation of more than 1,800 indirect full-time positions with an estimated 1,100 of these in Scotland.
