7th Administration | Steenhuisen talks about key priorities of his department

Statistics South Africa's recent Gross Domestic Product for the 1st Quarter of 2024 survey showed that agriculture was the largest positive contributor in the first quarter of this year, expanding by 13,5 percent. With the production of fruit, maize and animal products being the main positive contributors. Presenting his budget vote yesterday in Parliament, the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen, highlighted his department's key priorities including the Blended Finance Scheme to increase access to affordable finance for black producers in the agriculture and agro-processing sector. He also presented the department's interventions to mitigate the recent outbreaks of Avian Flu and Foot and Mouth disease in some parts of the country. The Minister joins us virtually to talk more about his key priorities and the role of agriculture in growing the economy.
