Make a Pinch Pot Part 3: Extending the rim and foot

This video demonstrates how to extend the rim of your pot and add a foot ring. Pinch pots are created by using your hands to shape the clay. Pinch pots are some of the oldest archaeological artifacts found on the planet.

1. Roll a coil about the thickness of your thumb
2. Fit the length of the rim
3. Attach the coil by scoring and slipping
4. Blend the coil into the pinch pot
5. Pinch extra height
6. Refine
7. Roll a thinner coil for the foot
8. Test fit and trim the coil to size
9. Outline the coil’s position
10. Score and slip to attach the foot ring
11. Blend and shape the foot
