In a dramatic statement at the APEC CEO Summit, Donald Trump claimed that he personally prevented a war between India and Pakistan — saying his trade threats and “love” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped hostilities.
Trump also hinted at a new India-US trade deal, praising Modi as “tough as hell” but “a great guy.”
However, India has firmly refuted Trump’s claims, stressing that no foreign leader intervened in the May 2025 de-escalation — which came after a direct request from Pakistan’s DGMO.
Trade relations remain tense, with tariff wars, disagreements over agriculture, dairy, and Russian oil, and Trump’s trademark unpredictability clouding the path ahead.
