How To Get The Most Out Of "Chords & Lyrics" Sheets On Guitar

Today's lesson is really quick and to the point. I just want to show you two things that I like to do to "chords and lyrics" sheets that will make them 10 times more effective.

When my one-on-one students are interested in learning how to play through the entire song, this has proven to be the fastest way to do it.

Once upon a time, you either had to listen to the song and play along with it enough times till you got it, or pay good money for sheet music that generally isn't so accurate...

I like to use an approach where we start by learning the song, section by section, just like we do in all my tutorials. Once you hit the point where it's time to put the entire song together, the generic chords and lyrics sheets that you can search for online are great tools to accomplish this.

Simply print out the sheet, listen to the song, and count along.

We count because, on those sheets when it says "play this chord," it never really tells you how long for. Counting tells us exactly that.

I also recommend writing out a grid-style chord chart, usually four chords wide, that will help you see the song in a much simpler way.
