Описание к видео Webinar | Soil and Water Conservation | Bamboo & Environmental Management

The way we learn and share experiences is changing. INBAR’s themed online webinar series brings bamboo and rattan experts from all over the world together to educate, inspire and discuss, without the need for travel.

This event, held online on 30 June, was the third organised under the theme of "Bamboo and Environmental Management." Bamboo has extensive fibrous roots and a rhizome system that make it suitable for holding topsoil and for stabilising slopes to prevent soil erosion. In bamboo forests, a high volume of leaf litter forms a protective layer above the topsoil and enhances soil fertility and groundwater recharge. Rapid growth and regrowth of bamboo roots and rhizome systems can improve soil structure, enhance groundwater recharge and regulate water flow. This webinar session shares the results of recent research and discusses how bamboo contributes to soil and water conservation around the world.

Speakers:

Dr. Rajesh Kaushal – Principal Scientist, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, India

Dr. Juan Carlos Camargo – Professor and researcher, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Technological University of Pereira, Colombia

Dr. Daniel S. Akoto – Senior Lecturer, Department of Forest Science, School of Natural Resources, University of Energy and Natural Resources-Sunyani, Ghana
