Lake Toba (Samosir island specifically) is a place well-known among backpackers and budget travelers the world over. In 2024 however, while the foreign tourists have slightly declined, the local population of Sumatra have kept their traditions and culture strong - it is an absolute treat to experience (and taste) some of that today.
