On Monday, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that, the recently passed controversial marriage registration bill has been decided to be recalled by the Rajasthan government for a re-examination, as he cited concerns that if the bill passes it will only increase the rate of child marriages.

As per PTI reports, Gehlot stated that the governor will be urged by the state government to give back the bill for legal consultations.

As per the 'Rajasthan Compulsory Marriage Registration (Amendment) Bill 2021, it is allowed to register marriage even if both the parties, the groom and the bride have not reached the legal marriage age, against which the rights activists and the opposition BJP raised objection.

On International Girl Child Day, addressing the programme Gehlot stated that there has been a severe controversy regarding the law that it will increase rates of child marriage. The authorities have decided that it is not about their prestige, hence, they requested the governor to return the bill that was passed recently. With legal consultations from lawyers afterwards, it will be decided whether to proceed with the bill or not.
