In this lesson, I show you how to take a basic blues lick in the key of A and elevate it to what I call the "Blues Deluxe." Starting with a primal, gut-bucket blues approach using a palm-muted shuffle on the low A string, I demonstrate how to progress to a more sophisticated sound reminiscent of great acoustic blues players from Clapton to John Mayer.

I break down both pick and fingerstyle techniques, walking you through the finger positions for different A7 and Am7 shapes. I explain how to execute smooth transitions between these shapes, including a practical tip about why I teach the A7 fingering in a specific way to make the slide movements easier. I also share some insights about using nail and skin contact for different tonal qualities when playing fingerstyle.
