What Happened to Doorbot After Shark Tank?
In 2013, Jamie Siminoff walked into Shark Tank with a big idea. He asked the Sharks for $700,000 in exchange for 10% of his company, Doorbot - a smart doorbell that let people see and talk to whoever was at their door, right from their phone. It wasn’t just a cool gadget. It was a brand-new way to make homes feel safer.
Jamie had already made $1 million in sales in just nine months, and he had just landed a deal with Staples to sell it in stores. The Sharks were impressed - but none of them made a deal.
Lori Greiner didn’t think Doorbot was unique enough. Mark Cuban didn’t see it growing big. Daymond John and Robert Herjavec weren’t convinced it fit in the market. Only Kevin O’Leary made an offer: $700,000 in exchange for a 10% royalty on all sales forever, plus 5% of the company. Jamie turned it down.
He walked out of the Tank without a deal - and nearly out of money. He had even spent $20,000 just building the set for his pitch. But something unexpected happened. After the episode aired, sales boomed - bringing in $5 million in one month.
That moment changed everything. Jamie used the momentum to redesign the product and gave it a new name: Ring.
Ring quickly became a hit. It was sold on QVC, online, and in major stores. One day, billionaire Richard Branson saw a Ring doorbell in action and was so impressed, he invested $28 million. Even NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal became a fan and joined as a spokesperson after using it for his own home.
By 2018, Ring was everywhere - and Amazon took notice. That year, Amazon bought the company for over $1 billion. Jamie stayed on as CEO, and Ring kept growing. It became a trusted name in home security, helping people across the country feel safer.
By 2022, Ring was making over $270 million a year. And Jamie? He became the first-ever former contestant to return to Shark Tank as a guest Shark.
Kevin O’Leary later admitted he missed out big time. If he had taken Jamie’s original deal, he said, he could’ve made $30 million.
Today, Ring is more than just a doorbell. It’s a security system, a neighborhood network, and a symbol of what can happen when you believe in your idea - even when others don’t.
