Shallow flats are one of the best places to find bass during the springtime months. On southern reservoirs, such as Santee Cooper lakes in South Carolina, spawning flats are key areas to focus your time as bass prepare for and complete their annual spawning ritual. When fishing massive shallow flats with an abundance of cover, Bassmaster Elite Series angler, Patrick Walters, knows the importance of locating irregularities. For example, small depressions where the depth increases a couple of feet can be key. Other days, finding isolated stumps or trees can be the key pieces of cover to target. As with everything in bass fishing, it's important to keep an open mind and experiment to find the pattern on any given day to catch more and bigger fish.
