Canning 50 pounds of Alaskan Salmon, Halibut, and Lingcod!

Описание к видео Canning 50 pounds of Alaskan Salmon, Halibut, and Lingcod!

The second best part to catching fish in Alaska is having a freezer full of salmon, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish to eat all winter long! But what do you do when summer is just around the corner and you still have a full freezer? CAN IT!

In this video we can about 50 pounds of salmon, halibut, and lingcod we caught last summer. Typically, we wouldn’t keep so much extra fish but we were getting low on moose meat and weren’t sure what September would bring. Lucky for us we were able to help harvest a moose last year with some of our best friends, filling our freezers FULL!

We were hoping to try canning some rockfish (yellow eye, black bass, etc.) but only had 3 packs of fillets left. Rockfish doesn’t hold as well in the freezer as the other species so we make sure to eat them first.

We hope you enjoy this video and maybe pick up some tips or ideas to use at home before you end up throwing out old, freezer burnt fish.

Canned salmon and halibut can be used just as canned tuna you buy from the store. Salmon casserole, Halibut melts, cream cheese salmon spread, and fish burgers are a few of our favorite recipes to utilize canned fish.

We also canned about 50 pounds of ground beef. What we tried turned out really good, but this was our first time! Comment below if you have any tips on canning ground beef/sausage and why you want to cook it prior to canning. We are DYING to know the real reason!
