A Nepali marriage ceremony is a rich and vibrant cultural event, blending Hindu rituals with regional and ethnic practices. It usually begins with the *Roka* or engagement, where the families formally announce the couple's intention to marry, followed by the *Tika ceremony* where the bride receives blessings from the groom's family. On the wedding day, the groom arrives with a procession called the *Baraat**, often accompanied by family and friends, and a **Janti* (gift exchange) takes place between both families. The main wedding rituals include the *Kanyadan**, where the bride’s father gives her hand to the groom, the **Mala exchange**, where the bride and groom exchange garlands as a symbol of mutual respect, and the taking of **seven rounds* around the sacred fire (*Agni*) while reciting vows. The groom also applies *sindoor* to the bride’s forehead and ties the *mangalsutra**, a sacred necklace, around her neck. After the wedding, the bride is welcomed into the groom’s home during the **Griha Pravesh* ceremony, and a grand *reception* is often held to celebrate the union. Nepali weddings may vary based on ethnicity, such as the *Newar* community’s multi-day celebrations or different customs among Tamang, Gorkha, and Brahmin communities. These weddings are marked by a deep sense of spirituality, family bonding, and festive joy.
