Bad RV Shore Power at a campground power pedestal? Here's how to test it.
We also have a built in surge protector.

After 2 1/2 years traveling full time in our fifth wheel trailer, we have come across too many bad power pedestals at campgrounds and RV parks - a few melted plugs, too (see video how to replace melted 30 amp plug    • How to Replace Melted 30amp RV Plugs & Sav...   )

Out last campsite, a Core of Engineers COE in Kentucky, the 50 amp - one leg was over voltage, so we had to use the 30 amp.

Larry uses a digital multi meter (https://amzn.to/3Ms1Nuz ) to test the campgrounds shore power before we plug our RV in - yes, we have a surge protector which saved us at that COE by alerting us of the high voltage. The multimeter in the video is no longer available- had it for years. So the Amazon link is for the one we just ordered for us.

This is how Larry tests it- it's not the only way and he is not a certified electrician or expert. Just a DIY guy doing his best to keep bad power pedestals from frying our Grand Design Solitude camper.

We have a surge protector and elaborate solar system with inverter that will block “bad power”
