Part 1 Outback Adventure Ride - 2024 Outback Jack

2,785 kilometres over eight days, we're covering three states through the Outback of Australia on this Outback Adventure Ride, ticking off iconic locations starting at Broken Hill into the Flinder Ranges up the Birdsville track, back east to Betoota Pub, down the Strzelecki track to Innamincka and back to Broken Hill. The initial plan is to head out to Cameron's corner and then down south, back to Broken Hill. However, heavy rains going into this event meant the plans would change, but by how much would be the question?

Adventure riding is intentionally challenging. Things happen, mechanical failures and incidents, and this trip would be no different. Several bikes wouldn't make it to the end, and some ended the trip with the push of the SOS button.

My purpose for this trip was to understand the appeal of the outback, and if there is one thing I took away, it is that the Outback confronts you with the vulnerability of our existence.

It wasn’t clear whether it would proceed two weeks before this event. Roads closed all through South Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales, some of which had yet to open by the time we started. Alex and the Aussie Bike or Hike crew had devised multiple contingency plans if access to major roads was denied.
