GLENS FALLS " A portion of the Glens Falls Civic Center collapsed Wednesday.
The city, which owns the center, said snow and ice buildup caused the fa ade of the roof to bow and eventually fall to the ground.
An initial assessment by engineers did not reveal any structural damage to the building, but they are still working to ensure the building is safe. The consortium of business owners, which leases the building, said it opted to close the center for two days for the assessment.
The Civic Center was originally scheduled to host boys Section II playoff games. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association moved games to Saratoga High School and Watervliet High School on Wednesday. It was not immediately known where Thursdays games will be played."Every coach has number one goal, get to the civic center at the end of the year for their team," said Wayne Bertrand, Executive Director of Section II. "I'm sure there are people that are disappointed, but we'll try our best to put a good tournament on for them."

Officials put out the following release about the incident:
The Glens Falls Civic Center is closed until further notice because of the impact of ice and snow accumulations on the roof of the building. Additionally, a portion of Oakland Ave. immediately adjacent to the Civic Center is closed. All section II high school basketball tournament games scheduled for the Civic Center will be relocated to an alternate venue that has yet to be determined. Additional information will be available as the situation is assessed and new facts become known.

The Section 2 Athletics website posted new locations for the games on Wednesday:
