This film takes you on Northlink's Hamnavoe ferry from Scrabster to Stromness, returning on Pentland Ferries' MV Alfred from St Margaret's Hope to Gill's Bay near John O'Groats. Different crossings, different scenery, different journey times, but both memorable.

If you are driving the NC500 and pushed for time then it is possible to take a speedy day trip (as I did on the day of filming) to sample Orkney (the current summer timetables allow around 6 hours to explore) , but there is so much to see and do, over so many different islands that you'll have to plan a longer trip next time!
