A few things I’ve noticed in my comments🤷🏾‍♀️

ADHD: Focusing issues can be due to anxiety, depression, hormonal issues, substance use and incorrect diagnosis of adhd may lead to over diagnosis and stimulant shortages so the people who need the medication may not always get it.

The Mental Status Exam in the psychiatric evaluation looks at body language, hygiene, tone, movement and clothing to help to inform a diagnosis not to make one. The experts who challenge me on this are typically research or academic mental health professionals not clinical providers so they have no idea that this is a part of a note.

Trauma responses and reactions do not mean a diagnosis of PTSD and negative experiences do not necessarily equal trauma.

It’s great for those who have conditions to share their stories to reduce stigma and to educate however one story cannot represent all cases. Some mental health Experts see hundreds of people with varying conditions over decades and treat successful cases and failures. They also see how different socioeconomic, cultural, religious and other factors lead to different presentations. They are able to then apply almost a decade of training to decades of clinical work to educate in an evidence informed not anecdotal way.

Some people with depression are actually crushing it and mask their symptoms with achievements.

Not everyone is ready for therapy. We are all different and some will benefit more from medication because therapy needs to be a process that people buy in to and if they don’t then it typically is not effective in reaching their goals.
