CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A mistrial declared by now-disbarred Judge Bentley Price in a 2023 murder trial will result in John Joseph Erb, who was charged with the murder of Donald Blake, walking free, barring any successful appeals. Erb was initially found guilty by a jury, but the verdict was overturned after a juror recanted her decision, citing pressure from other jurors.

In October of 2023, the South Carolina Bar determined Price unqualified for his position due to his reputation. He was subsequently not renominated to his position for 2024.
