Скачать или смотреть Joseph L Block Shows Off New Paint, The Rare Algoma Buffalo Makes First Canal Appearance in 7 Years

An extra special double! Joseph L Block officially starting out her season after refits in two different dry docks and a few delays, and Algoma Buffalo returns to Duluth for just the second time under the Canadian flag, the first appearance since Christmas 2018. Special enough to get up early for on a Sunday, about 6am!

Joseph L Block overwintered in Sturgeon Bay, going into drydock there for a brief period, getting painted and inspected, but was moved out after just a couple weeks to allow Paul R Tregurtha and Frontenac to use it as well. She received further attention at the dock, but in mid April sailed to Superior to complete her drydocking and fit out in Fraser Shipyards. After 8 days, she sailed out to load ore, and sailed on her first official run early this morning, starting out her season with shiny new paint and other fixes. This is also the first time in her career she is sailing without her previous captain, who sailed on her since her launch in 1976 all the way until his retirement in 2024. She looks great, sounds great and hope they have a great season!

At the same time, Algoma Buffalo made her way across the lake on her first trip of the season, and the first visit through the Canal in 7 years. She is also featuring a new captain and some of you may know him. Captain TJ, formerly of the Manitoulin took command of the Buffalo for the season, and has been featuring the prep work and trip up here on his YouTube Channel! The ship may look rough on the outside but the inside is quite the contrast, amazingly clean and almost spotless. With the Radcliffe R Latimer (previously the rustiest ship on the Lakes) getting a complete makeover this season, there’s a good chance the Buffalo is up next. She arrived for the Soo Express run, loading iron ore at the old 1800s era gravity dock (used rarely for smaller loads) and departed for Sault Ste Marie before the sun set. Looking forward to seeing her more! Missed her last season on the Superior side, along with both her two sister ships, American Courage and Sam Laud from the ASC/ Grand River fleet.
