Well, we had to make a video for a studio project (Landscape Architecture studio, that is) showcasing the badlands near Drumheller, AB, and this was my result. I'm aware that it's not the BEST FILM EVER, but I put a lot of hours into it so I thought why not throw it on YouTube, and let people who may have never been to Drumheller see some cool visuals of the area.

Fun fact, there are a LOT of ghost towns in the Red Deer River valley because they once supported the many coal mines in the region. However, they started to empty out around the 1970's once coal wasn't as popular, and the mines began to close. Today Atlas Coal Mine in particular is a tourist spot, where you can see intact mining infrastructure and remnants of the rail spur that once carried coal out of the mine. Buuut if you really want to see historic infrastructure outside of a tourist locale, old CP and CN Rail bridges are dotted throughout the valley (especially near the hamlet of Wayne), you can see old coal cars by Nacmine, and historic churches and a grain elevator in Dorothy... and much much moooreee!

I had a lot of fun learning about the history of these little towns, so hopefully if you live in Alberta, or plan on visiting Drumheller you might be inspired to learn about and visit them too! Thanks for watching :)
