I ended up buying a new bottom gauge and test driving it for a while with local people I turn wood with. I didn't want a Thompson handle though and the Oneway adapters are not big enough. So, the best route (and the cheapest) was doing it this way. That way I can have a handle that is perfect for finishing cuts, comfortable and is long enough to reach way in there for those tricky spots and stay in control.
