In Lone Star, most people take Leon, but he is easily countered by a lot of brawlers, while Surge, when he has his super charged, can destroy any brawler in melee. His excellent mobility allows it to get close to long-range and kill them easily.
The mistake that you shouldn’t make is to struggle to survive. Here I made a mistake: I spent my super before I died, which is a very bad start.

With Surge, it's important to don’t spend your gadgets unnecessarily. Good gadget use = 1 kill + super reload OR 1 kill + 2/3 super reload OR a double, triple kill.
Use your gadgets to dodge an opponent and then kill him, to guarantee a kill or to get closer to him. No need to use it to survive because it is not essential in this gamemode.
Better to collect the garbage (kill people who are already killing each other) than have your kill stolen by someone else. It's not very nice, but we're here to win ;)

Know that there is always a way to get Top 1 in every game. If you lose a game, you made a mistake somewhere. To get started, review your game replays to understand your mistakes.
Here, the mistake that will give me a Top 2 was to spend my super before I die.
Subsequently, a charged super would have allowed me to kill the Mortis and the Leon.
Finally, having spent my super at the start of the game puts me in a bad position. The main trick you should know to win is to save your supers and gadgets.

Do not hesitate to lose interest in a fight to make a kill that earns a lot of stars. However, always watch your previous opponent, who could steal your kill.
Do not use your super to upgrade your speed or range, it is useless in all situations.

The 1st step of the game, reloading your super, is often the longest. If your super is charged, it doesn't matter if you die.
The 2nd step of the game consists of using 1 or 2 gadgets in order to reach at least 6 stars above your head. Then the 3rd step begins.
In the 3rd step, you no longer chase anyone who doesn’t have at least 6 stars above their head, because the others will start to chase you. Stay safe, then when they start killing each other, finish them all.

Of course, this guide is not always 100% reliable, but it takes into account my general playing experience and in this mode. No one can say he never makes mistakes :)
