Children and Young People Dancing: Perspectives and case studies

A range of organisations and individuals present projects and discuss different perspectives and contexts:

Dancing with Your Neighbours
Dancing with your neighbours was created by young people from Yorkshire Dance Youth. The film presents a personal insight into the communities in which the young people live, presenting conversations through dance that happen on the streets, in living rooms and on doorsteps. This unique project demonstrates an original way in which to create dance with young people.

YDance Active - delivering on physical activity objectives for teenage girls through dance
YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) works in partnership with Government agencies in Scotland aiming to increase physical activity amongst young people through participatory dance. Since 2005, the Scottish Government Health Department, NHS Health Scotland and Sportscotland have commissioned YDance to deliver three initiatives using dance as a means of encouraging young people, and girls in particular, to become more physically active. This presentation will focus on the 2 programmes specifically targeted at teenage girls – Free to Dance and YDance Active.

An insight into East London Dance's approach to enabling young people to realise their creative ideas and ambitions. Hear about The Fi.ELD (Future Innovators - East London Dance) and how East London Dance is putting young people's artistic voices at the heart of a major new partnership with Hofesh Shechter Company.
