FLASHBACK: June 1969, The Hunt's Bay Causeway and Bridge, simply referred to as the Causeway, joining Newport West to Fort Augusta in the background. Then under construction, the new 3-mile route from the city to Portmore and Independence City was slated to have a 24-foot-wide carriageway and two 8-foot hard shoulders. The Portmore leg of highway 2000 is slated to replace the Causeway in St Catherine. - Archives
