Описание к видео 1914 Palmer Launch ROXANNE Water Test 8 3 2014

Roxanne is a 1914 Palmer launch who is powered by her original flathead four Palmer engine. Her home port is Winter Harbor on Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire.
She arrived at Snake Mountain Boatworks last autumn, needing what we thought was “only” re-caulking and painting above and below the waterline. How wrong we were!
As she completes her water test today and then is towed home by her owners, Roxanne has endured a major structural restoration that included slowly truing the hull, which was severely twisted when she arrived. The below-waterline “planking” turned out to be a rather random combination of rotting white cedar, Philippine mahogany, half-inch CDX plywood and automotive Bondo. We saved every plank we could, but ended up fabricating about 60% using FAS grade white cedar we sourced in the Pacific Northwest.
We fabricated and replaced about 80% of her frames – everyone from just forward of the engine box aft to the transom. Most of the ribs in this area were replaced as well.
The bottom board on the transom could not be saved, either, as was the case with the keel prop bore, shaft log. The list goes on and on.
We challenged Homer Wells, New Haven, VT, to match the lettering font we identified from photos of Roxanne as she left the factory in 1914. Homer used brass, which we then aged to mimic her all-original bronze hardware. Even the vinyl registration lettering has been “updated” in aged brass.
Finally, this special day arrived. We knew her engine runs well, but had we solved the leaking that required the owners to run three bilge pumps 24/7? Yes, well 99% yes. We observed a slight leak where keel and gripe are joine4, which we will address next winter, even if swelling now that she is in the water does not do the trick.
The entire SMB crew extends super high fives and heartfelt gratitude that Roxanne’s current stewards entrusted saving her to us.
