Widening fine tuners to fit thicker string windings

Описание к видео Widening fine tuners to fit thicker string windings

This video shows how to slightly widen the fine tuner "fork" on violin and viola to hold strings with thicker windings by the ball end. It also shows a few miscellaneous tips on changing strings.

One example would be when a student upgrades strings from a thinner steel string like D'Addario Prelude and upgrades to a wound string like D'Addario Zyex (as shown in the video). The fine tuner forks are sometimes too narrow to accept the thicker lower winding. Using a small screw driver, you can carefully widen the forks to accept the wider string.

Be VERY careful when doing this as not to slip and mar the instruments varnish or go too wide to break the metal off the fine tuner fork.
