"Liver Cirrhosis" which is a very common and deadly problem with a high incidence worldwide is being properly explained and discussed here in this video.

Liver is the largest #gland in our body. It is a vital #organ and it has many important functions. The most important function of liver is digestion. It plays an important role in the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Liver stores carbohydrates in the form of glycogen, which is an important energy source of the body. It also produces albumin. #Liver plays an important role in toxin removal. It also has certain hormonal properties and plays an important role in immunity. Liver also produces many substances which helps in blood clotting.

Acute liver disease is a short duration disease, which comes and goes from your body. Due to its regenerative capacity, #liver recovers from acute liver disease. But whenever chronic liver disease sets in our body, liver is not able to regenerate itself completely and fibrosis occurs. If the injury persists, there is extensive fibrosis in the liver due to which cirrhosis occurs.

Normal liver is very soft. It has a network of hepatocytes and blood flows very smoothly. It does not have any fibrous tissue at all. As the insult persists, initially the liver heals without fibrosis, but if the injury or insult persists and does not go away from the liver then slowly the liver tissue heals and the fibrous tissue starts depositing in it.

Initially, this fibrous tissue does not bother you. When this phenomenon continues and this fibrous tissue accumulates a lot, this advanced fibrous deposition in the liver is called cirrhosis. Due to this, the pressure in the liver and the portal system, increases, which is called portal hypertension.

We can divide symptoms of liver cirrhosis into three parts - 1) Asymptomatic 2) Early #cirrhosis or compensated #cirrhosis, and 3) Late #cirrhosis or decompensated #cirrhosis.

In this video, we have discussed in detail about liver cirrhosis symptoms and how to look for them. We have also discussed the etiology of #livercirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis can be diagnosed with a good clinical history, examination and certain diagnostic tests. Diagnostic tests include liver function tests, radiological tests like ultrasound, CT scan, fibroscan and liver biopsy.
