Ten Years of Restoring the River Till in Northumberland

Описание к видео Ten Years of Restoring the River Till in Northumberland

The River Till in Northumberland is recognised nationally and internationally for its morphology – from upland streams, to dynamic gravel rivers, through to meandering lowland rivers. Because of this the river is designated nationally as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and internationally as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). However, after centuries of human activity, impacting on water quality, biodiversity and flood risk, the condition of the habitat for important species like Atlantic Salmon, Otter and Lamprey is classified as ‘unfavourable’.

For over 10 years, we’ve been working in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency to restore the River Till, engaging landowners and local communities in efforts to remove harmful physical modifications and implement sustainable land management practices. Using a range of river restoration techniques, we've aimed to improve water quality, biodiversity, and natural flood management, enhancing the condition of the River Till and its tributaries.

The River Till Restoration Strategy is a collaborative effort between Tweed Forum, Natural England, and the Environment Agency.
