At the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, 37 countries – led by Panama and Canada, together with the European Union – launched the High Ambition Coalition for a Quiet Ocean: the first-ever political alliance dedicated to reducing harmful underwater noise.

This is a game-changer for marine conservation. Noise from global shipping is disrupting marine life's ability to communicate, orientate and survive.
The Coalition’s priorities include:

➡️ Quieter ships through IMO policies
➡️ Addressing noise reduction when establishing marine protected areas
➡️ Measures to reduce vessel noise impacts on wildlife
➡️ Global tools and capacity-building via the IMO’s GloNoise Partnership

OceanCare, together with Environmental Investigation Agency, Humane World for Animals, IFAW and NRDC, welcomes this powerful step. The forming of a High Ambition Coalition for a Quiet Ocean certainly provides excitement to work jointly towards measurable underwater noise reduction and will hopefully grow further in coming weeks and months. 🐋
