Even as the voting was underway for the first phase of elections in West Bengal, the BJP and the ruling TMC engaged in a tit-for-tat war of leaked phone conversations.
The BJP alleged that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee dialled one of its leaders in East Midnapore district to ask for his help in the ongoing assembly elections.
The saffron party released what it claimed to be an audio clip of a purported conversation between Banerjee and Pralay Pal, the BJP vice-president in the politically crucial East Midnapore.
While TMC questioned the authenticity of a tape, the party released a purported phone conversation between BJP’s Mukul Roy and his colleague Shishir Bajoria. TMC has alleged that BJP’s Mukul Roy can be heard briefing party leader Shishir Bajoria on ways to influence the Election Commission {EC) in the purported audio clip.
