Victims and experts discuss strategies to address crimes of mass atrocity through the lens of forced organ harvesting in China.

Mass atrocity crimes are difficult to address, and creative approaches are needed to fill evidence gaps and to support those legislators and organisations who are willing to act.

In 2019, the China Tribunal, an independent people’s tribunal chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice KC, found that forced organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience has been happening in China on a mass scale, killing the victims in the process. The China Tribunal’s Judgment has propelled significant change globally in addressing this crime against humanity.

Similarly, Global Rights Compliance published a ‘world’s first’ Legal Advisory Report and Policy Guidance that outlines the business and human rights obligations and complicity risks for stakeholders in the field of organ transplantation medicine when interacting with countries where organ trafficking is known to take place.

Please join Genocide Watch, the International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China, and Global Rights Compliance, as experts and survivors of forced organ harvesting discuss these initiatives and their effectiveness in combating mass atrocity. Presentations will be followed by a Q&A.

Speakers
Cheng Pei Ming is the first known survivor of the ongoing state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting campaign carried out by the Chinese regime against prisoners of conscience. Transplant experts have confirmed scans show that sections of Mr. Cheng’s liver and left lung have been surgically removed. The forced removal happened in a Chinese hospital while he was imprisoned for his spirutual practice of Falun Gong. Mr. Cheng later escaped from China to Thailand.

Alexa Jeremy is currently the Legal and Communications Manager of the International Coalition to End Transplant Abuse in China (ETAC). She is legally trained, with experience in both corporate and human rights law and a career background combining strategic and legal advice, with workplace mediation and conflict resolution in the public/private sectors and international arena.

Lara Strangways is an expert in the field of business and human rights, a Senior Legal Adviser and the Head of Business and Human Rights at Global Rights Compliance. She has consulted extensively with governments, non-governmental organisations, and multilateral institutions and oversees the delivery of multi-year programmes to address systemic adverse human rights impacts in global supply chains.

Alexander Cook is a member of Genocide Watch’s China task force and a recent graduate from the London School of Economics with an MSc in International Relations, where he studied foreign responses to ongoing mass atrocity.

Yes. Genocide Watch does think this Chinese policy is to intentionally destroy a religious group - Falun Gong. So it is genocide.
