The New BMW M2 Raises the Bar for Compact Performance

BMW has taken the wraps off the latest iteration of its compact performance coupe, the M2. And this new model elevates the driving experience in its segment to unprecedented levels.

At the heart of the new M2 is an updated 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine. Output has been increased by 20 hp to 480 hp, while torque is rated at 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) with the optional six-speed manual or a stout 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) with the standard eight-speed automatic. The extra muscle drops the 0-60 mph time to just 4.0 seconds with the auto or 4.2 ticks with the row-your-own gearbox.

But the M2 is about more than just straight-line performance. Chassis revisions, an aggressive aero package, and a newly standard adaptive suspension should make this BMW's most capable compact sports coupe yet.

Visually, the M2 gets a model-specific front fascia with circular LED headlights reminiscent of the iconic 2002. Out back, black tailpipe finishers and revised bumper covers further distinguish it.

Inside, the latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment system makes its debut, displayed on a curved glass panel. M-specific touches include new steering wheels, available carbon bucket seats, and the familiar M Setup controls for tailoring the drive experience.

With more power, greater visual impact, and the latest tech packaged in a compact rear-drive platform, the 2024 BMW M2 seems poised to reset benchmarks for its class.

Pricing will be announced closer to the M2's late summer 2024 launch, but expect a starting figure in the low-to-mid $60,000 range.
