How millions of pounds of wild blueberries are being harvested and processed

Wild blueberries, native to North America, differ significantly from cultivated blueberries. They are smaller, come in various colors from blue to almost black, and have a range of flavors from very sweet to not too sweet. Unlike the uniform and carefully planned cultivated varieties, wild blueberries grow naturally in fields and rocky hills called barrens without human intervention. These low-maintenance crops require minimal attention, though bees are often brought in for pollination. Wild blueberries have a two-year growth cycle, with fields being trimmed every two years.
