Seaweed Roofs on Læsø, Denmark

Описание к видео Seaweed Roofs on Læsø, Denmark

This is the story of the many seaweed roofs on the small Danish island, Læsø, which is located in the middle of the Kattegat.
The only place in the world where seaweed roofs can be found, is on Læsø and therefore the seaweed houses have been preserved as cultural heritage.
In the 18th century, the majority of roofs on Læsø were covered with seaweed, but the old tradition has slowly decreased and in 2013 there were only 19 houses left, before a strong reconstruction started the same year.
A great deal of effort from the Danish Agency for Culture as well as local efforts have been made in order to save the seaweed roofs before extinction. The only problem is to find craftsmen to rebuild the roofs the traditional Læsø way.

The film will be part of the Danish cultural heritage, and without this film, the way to reconstruct these unique houses could easily be forgotten. Therefore, this historical narrative, which has stretched over more than three years of recording, aims to preserve the way of building and the importance of being able to do it again in maybe 200 years to come, when new roofs have to be made or the old ones need reconstruction.
The film is a cinematic visual and historical documentary.
