One of the rare and special cat breeds is the Snowshoe cat. They are mostly popular for their bright blue eyes and white “snow boot” paws. Originally, the Snowshoe cat breed is the outcome of crossing Siamese with American Shorthairs during the 1960s. Due to which it has Siamese style points combined with white paws and white spotting.

In the late 1960s, an American breeder of Siamese cats named Dorothy Hinds-Daugherty discovered three kittens in one of her litters with a common Siamese pattern but with white paw which caught her eyes. Then she decided to cross those Siamese with a Domestic short-haired cat to continue the breeding of Snowshoe cat. But the result was not as expected, it was such a slow work and she didn’t succeed much.

Vikki Olander from Norfolk, Virginia showed interest and help her continue the breeding with the same process of crossing. Still, it was not known by many people but slowly its popularity was on the upswing and the breed was accepted as an experimental breed by the American Cat Association and the Cat Fancier Federation (CFF) in 1974.
