Government of India on 9th November 2020 has issued an order bringing online news portals and content providers like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar operating in India, under the Information and Broadcasting ministry. The notification has been signed by President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind.

Reacting on the decision, Managing Editor of News Sense, Joydeep Dasgupta in an Interview to News 18 Bangla said, the decision has both positive as well as negative aspect to it, as with the regulation now have proper monitoring of the content on the other hand the control of the government over the new contents, may also lead to a situation of compromising the 'Press Freedom'.
