Padraig Meer (From the Dresser Project)

Описание к видео Padraig Meer (From the Dresser Project)

This interview was recorded as part of The Dresser Project in Co. Mayo in 2015.

The Dresser Project is a new body of work which has been conducted by artist Michael Fortune as part of the Bealtaine Festival in counties Mayo, Waterford, Carlow and Tipperary. The project began in May 2015 and since thenMichael has been documenting kitchen dressers in each county through a combination of photography, film and story. An exhibition of photographs and short field recordings was launched in each county in late May 2016 with accompanying artist talks.

During this process, Michael visited approximately sixty peoples homes and collected the stories behind each dresser on film which feature on this website. The photographic series also creates a catalogue of different styles of dressers from each county, an invaluable archive in its own right.

Featured on the project website is a newly commissioned text on dressers by Dr. Clíona O’Carroll of the Béaloideas/Folklore and Ethnology Department of University College Cork.
