About the webinar theme:
The neorealist cinema originated in Italy after World War II had a profound impact on World Cinema. Satyajit Ray and Lester James Peiris are maestros of world cinema from the SAARC region who have inspired generations of filmmakers in the sub-continent. Satyajit Ray became one of the pioneers of neorealism or parallel cinema movement in the Indian sub-continent. Sri Lankan film maker and close friend of Satyajit Ray, Lester James Peiris, revolutionized Sri Lankan cinema with a strong local flavour and indigenous style.

The new-generation of filmmakers from the SAARC region have carried forward this legacy with powerful narratives, novelty in theme, global collaborations in production and innovative models of distribution. This is bringing forth a new era for independent cinema.

This webinar has globally acclaimed independent filmmakers as speakers who have demonstrated success in the recent past with their creativity. Rubaiyat Hossain from Bangladesh, Binod Paudel from Nepal and Aneek Chaudhuri from India join from SAARC region. Serhat Karaaslan from Turkey shall give insight on global collaborations in independent cinema with his filmmaking experience in Europe.

This webinar shall benefit aspiring filmmakers and media students in the SAARC region to get a sense of the challenges and opportunities that are shaping-up independent cinema in the digital age.

The webinar is organized by the Department of Media Studies and IQAC of Christ Nagar College, Trivandrum, India in association with the SAARC Cultural Centre, Colombo, Sri Lanka
